Total nonsense. As a Christian who doesn't skim his bible but takes time to read and understand what God is saying, this story is typical of the catholic church. They hold items as sacred, like their chalices, incense burner, the cross with Jesus still on it, statues of saints, statues of Mary but yet God himself said to have no graven images, also Jesus was removed from the cross, places in a grave and arose 3 days later so his image on a cross is wrong. Back in that time Jesus Christ wouldn't have owned a gold anything, gold was of no interest to our savior but it was to the Pharisees and Sadducees and the Romans and who are the Romans later on??? The catholic church.

Mathew 26:17-30

26. while they were all eating
Jesus took bread and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to his disciples saying, take and eat, this is my body

27.then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them saying, drink from it , all of you, 28. this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sin, 29. I tell you I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on, until the day I drink it new with you in my fathers kingdom.

30. when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olive

BZ- IF it were a cup Jesus owned, it probably would have been wooden, as he was a carpenter, like his earthly father. However, the cup in question, was the property of the inn (or owner) of the "Upper Room" which his disciples had procured for the last supper (on his command). Even if it had been made of gold, it surely would not have lasted to current times. With the unrest of the region, in the years following Jesus resurection, as well as the continual unrest to current days, the odds of a Templar (or anyone for that matter) to have found and removed the cup are astronomically slim. While it is true that the Catholic Church has retained and objectified many items through history, they are FAR from the only religion to do so in the middle-ages. When things are their bleakest, in history, Man routinely gives symbols of hope. NOT a purely religious custom, either. Many of the "modern" Christian sects who refrain from such symbolism came well after those dark times. However, careful of the finger-pointing: Even the cross, bare and simple, is still a graven image. Let your heart be your guide, and make peace with God in the end. Conviction is one thing, but once you start pointing fingers, it easily turns to hate, and NONE of the religious teachings wish us to go there! It is only man, and his misunderstandings through history, which uses hate in God's name. Regardless of professed faith or none..............
