i just finished writing a small essay in response to all the other posts that have been written since my last comment...but for some reason when i went to post it, i had been automatically logged out. a little frustrating i must say, because i had many things to say in my defense. i will say i was a bit surprised by the "poacher" label i have now received. if i had been arrested, would i be tried for poaching? and please answer this-would you rather have the guy in your corner that cleans the park, returns the ring, finds that coworkers missing knife for him, and speaks out in the face of authority as to what he personally feels is truly right and what is truly wrong, but may have at one time or another found himself on that foreclosed property...or would you rather have in your corner the upstanding citizen with his hands in his pocket full of so called legally taken rings and coins, that never crosses into that gray area, would probably give up his much loved hobby if the government decided to tell him so, yet never takes the time to do things that puts the hobby into a positive light. i appreciate the posts of those that said maybe they would have done it in a different way or spoke shortly of their experience of getting caught, because thats what i was asking for when i started this thread. as for those that have attacked me and tried to demonize me all i have to say is you can kiss my..... :) have a nice day

That POACHER label was given to you by a man that has a way bigger agenda...dont take what he said personal...when I get time I will send you a PM and tell you what he is about.

really?I have no agenda, and I gave nobody the title of poacher until you admitted to it via PM!So hey,why dont you just do like we agreed and steer clear of each other? You have me all wrong...I guess I am a horrible person because my family owns property that we make our living from, and protect it?What has this world come to?I am the bad guy now and you are the hero?

.......also bufalo,I will right here publicly apologize for ever opening my yap on here.......as I told you in the PM,I never had issue with your situation or you.I was speaking of my personal interests with lands my family owns and more so.lands that I am privileged to detect with permission....hypocritical of Me?Maybe so.In this big ole, world all we can really control is our personal path and I guess when we feel strongly about something we do,or believe, these forums give us an avenue to voice them.....evidently thats not the right thing to do

Personally, I'd rather have the guy in my corner that cleans the park, returns the ring, finds the coworker's missing knife, speaks out in the face of authority, AND HAS NEVER FOUND HIMSELF ON THAT FORECLOSED PROPERTY BY CHOICE.

You are a clear example of a "binary thinker". You think there are only two choices in the world: black or white. Well, the world is made up of a whole spectrum full of colors. Too many people want to justify their actions by saying things like "well do you turn in your rings? If not you are breaking the law too so who are you to judge!". But the problem is that the law is very gray. The logic that you and your proponents are using to justify this also implies that a person who breaks the speed limit is not allowed to cast judgement on someone who commits murder. After all, if you break ANY law then you can't judge someone else who breaks the law right? This of course is a ridiculous assertion as we all know that not all laws are created equal.

In your case you claim that you don't think you have done anything wrong. HOWEVER.... I guarantee that if the tables were turned and someone came onto YOUR property and started digging/taking things without your permission you'd be unbelievably pissed about it. So in this case you can't say that you don't think you were doing something wrong. You KNEW you were doing something wrong but ignored your conscience anyway. But more importantly, you are more than happy to have the law upheld when it serves to benefit you but you think it is just fine to break that same law in order to get what you want. This is the hypocritical nature of your argument.

The real question you need to ask yourself is that if you came home from a 2 week vacation and someone had helped themselves to your yard would you be upset about it? Would you call the police? Would you press charges if the person was captured? If the answer is "yes" then you have no leg to stand on.

For the record you have been fairly gracious in your arguments and manner during this conversation. I applaud you for putting up with the onslaught of criticism.

Lets just say you live in an easy state. Your state parks are open to detecting and you can keep what you find. In Rock Hound State Park, you have , I think it is 8#limit on speciment rocks. They tell you where to find them and identify your finds for you. They even tell you how to clean them. In Poncho Villa State Park in Columbia , you can look for relics of the raid on the town by Villa. In most States the hunter is not so lucky. I think the situation sets the actions in any area. Let me just say, I don't think anyone could get thru a day without breaking some law. Just my point of view. Frank...

Absolutely correct Frank rule number 1 keep your mouth shut

In life one always must be prepared for the answer to questions asked. If you think you might not like the answer - - Don't Ask.

I wasnt going to mention what we talked about in PMs...but if your going to bring my PMs in to the open forum then I guess I could tell everyone what you called Tom in CA and how you cussed me out when I diddnt call you one bad name...fair is fair...if you want to be left alone, then leave me alone. If you have to keep coming on here and apoligizing, think about what you are saying before you type it...this is over as far as Im concerned...lets agree to move on.

Treasure-pirate, I see what you're saying. Let's say someone came on a forum and says "I'm about to hold up a 7-11 in a robbery". And then when someone tries to tell him "that's just plain wrong, illegal, and bad", the guy can just try to say: "well you break the speed limit, so who are you to talk?". No, that does not logically follow. It is entirely possible for someone to break the speed limit (maybe even on purpose d/t he was late to work!!), yet in the same breath, tell the robber it's bad/wrong to rob 7-11's.

I guess the reason why it's a knee-jerk reaction for me to point out this "justification" (that we all fudge in a lot of places we hunt, if you were to look long enough and hard enough at various potential rules to apply) is this: Because I guess those of us who put forth those examples, are subconsciously trying to say that ALL of us pick and choose *just* how hard-line we want to be. So the purpose of this "justification" is not to necessarily be trying to say "it's right and honorable to do". Because, no, technically, it's not "right". Sure, we should all "ask" at even those most innocous places you come to. But rather, to point out that if we want to start down that slippery slope, then it's going to get to the point where, you might as well hang it up. Does that "make it right"? No, you're right, it doesn't.

With all the differences of opinion, we still all have one common bond...we all like to treasure hunt and metal detect.

Nah kuger would never call me a bad name!! He's my best buddy, and loves me to death! :hello:

....actually Tom,when it comes down to it,I think we both have many of the same views...I called you a Night hawker......you hunt at night...why?I dont know....in the end,its none of my business.Do I think you are a bad guy? No.I would like to have a sit down conversation with you someday

its been a long, bloody, gutslingin battle. lets just lay down our weapons and walk away. many innocent and not so innocent bystanders have suffered wounds for what ive regretably started. i wonder if the relics from this one will lay as they are and eventually rot away with time as have real, physical relics from actual wars, or if some digger will root these comments up again in the near future, igniting yet another bloody battle. :)

Don't beat yourself up. We are all to blame. Frankly, this battle has been a long time coming and you are just the impetus in getting it started. This is not the first time this battle has has been fought and it certainly won't be the last.

As I said before, you have shown great restraint and I applaud you for the good character you have shown by keeping this civil. I think moving on is the best thing we can do at this point. I apologize for any hard feelings I may have caused. :icon_thumright:

It is not "technically" wrong to trespass, it is legally wrong. And morally wrong.

There is no more than that to it.
