Hello all,
First of all, thanks to all of those that have helped me with my questions. You have all helped me clear up something I was unsure of. We have a great commnunity here and we all seem to help each other out the best we can. :)
Now on to my question, does anyone use coin probes? I have thought about getting one, but not really sure how effective they have? Seems to me they would be VERY handy, but am I worried about damaging my finds. I have heard that probes with a rounded brass tip will not damage your finds. Is this true. I also to to recall that years ago that made probes with porcelin tips.

Any comments or suggestions?

Thanks,

I recommend one of the electronic pinpointers.I have a Whites and a Vibraprobe. They are a miniature detector and you move the plastic covered shaft around in the hole or on the plug of soil to find the coin, etc.Their range is about 1 inch. They really help to find your treasure quickly. And they will not scratch it.

I'm using the Automax,Precision V2 PINPOINTER and I would not leave home without it.Trust me you cant even see most coins even if they are on top of the dirt . If they have any crud at all they just blend in. HH

I used a coin probe for the first time over the weekend in my backyard. First thing I found with it was a 1992 Kennedy half (posted Sunday). I would have been very dissapointed if the half was an old silver one as the one I found using the probe got scratched up pretty bad.

I won a Automax Precision 2 pinpointer on ebay for $50 and should have it today. Has a plastic tip, so it shouldn't scratch any coins. Anxious to see how it works! HH 8)
