I'd love to be able to hunt a beach after a big storm, just curious. Good luck jeepGold, hope to see a post of your finds.

They are saying all the beaches are now closed...if you go on them before they are opened, wouldn't you be charged with trespassing?...people always talk about hunting after the storms...how do you get on the beach when its closed?

Well, I am here on the Treaurecoast and I plan on going as soon as I can. I know it will be hard to cross over the bridges but I will try for sure

Stories I have heard about the treasure coast with past hurricanes is that some folks actually go to the island beach areas before they are closed and hide out somewhere to be able to be the first one onto the beach after the storm or even during the tail end of the storm as it passes. Now that might sound like a good way to find the really good stuff but I will tell you that I know of an individual who tied himself to a bridge while wearing a life jacket, wanting to experience a storm first hand. The rope and life jacket were found but the individual was never seen again. Crazy ideas like that may not end up turning out like you might hope. Be smart and be safe, you only get one life on Earth.

Sunrise Saturday, I'll be there...

After Sandy hit us, the Long Island beaches were closed and patrolled for almost 10-days. By then the beach had been sanded in again, or the bulldozers had pushed sand around. We still found some old gold and silver, but nothing like we hoped.

you will be too late - by then they may be replenishing the sand - guys will be out enforce hammering it by Weds.
I booked a trip week after storm in 2005 - changed plans to 2 weeks and missed all the Spanish silver and gold found week before - which I had booked to begin with

have a police badge - 2 cops were hitting them when all others were being told to get out by police
heard a couple of them found 8 escudos
parking is usually the tough part - advice - don't be afraid to offer a local right on the beach a few bucks to park or offer to help someone out in exchange to be allowed to park

I'm going as soon as they allow southbound traffic to Jax- Daytona area. I'm 1:45 from Jax so it will probably be my first stop

I am not a beach detector, but I am very tempted. here you need a badge to detect the beach. to get the badge you need to watch a video about unexploded ordinances. "hey what's this?" tap tap tap BOOM! type thing...

Im already there :P

Bunkered down in a sand dune covered with a nice large beach towel :)

Sand dune.......... heck there aint no sand dunes now. Hope you have a life vest and scuba tanks too cause you are getting real wet. The sand blast alone will remove car paint at 135 mph.

We took a direct hit from Opal back in '95. We've had several storms, some pretty severe, but Opal leveled the dunes for miles. I was shocked the first time I drove Okaloosa Island after the storm. 15' to 25' dunes all flattened.

Hmmmm I need some crap sandblasted...

Be back after I load my trailer. :P

I agree with Hubcap. I was shocked when I arrived at the beach today. There were no cuts but it did look like some of the sand bars had been taken out. I hope that is the case. The beach is sanded in even more now.
