I’m visiting family in Illinois and found a broken axe at an antique mall. I picked it up pretty cheap for the collection. It has turquoise colored markings on one side that I had assumed, in my haste, were collectors marks but on closer inspection, I’m not so sure. Anyone seen anything like this before? Not sure where exactly it was recovered from but the sellers thought it was from central Illinois. The way it seems oriented it looks to me to be a collectors mark. Maybe removed in some way to leave that look on it? Then after that outcome it ended up cheap at an antique mall. Got a black light you can try on it?

Tdog, I don’t believe they are part of the stone. I haven’t tried to clean them off yet either though. Nwohseeker, I don’t have a black light but it’s a good idea and one I’ll pursue.
