Anyone know what this is?

I found this metal detecting. Its 2 1/2 " across it. Found about 5 inches under the ground.

Looks more like a silver (or silver plated) compact to me. Have you opened it yet?

Found a compact many years back, and once cleaned (outside) I had planned to leave
it in that state as I was fearful of damaging it by opening. My Mom said that girls
when she was young (1930's) used to carry a coin in their compacts so they could
always call home, or have bus fare if needed.

Sure enough, there was a Buffalo nickel (no date) sitting inside!

I hope it turns out to be silver. If it is, then go find the other half!lol
I found a 10" piece of broken chain necklace 2 days ago that I suspect is gold. If it is, I'll waste no time in trying to find the rest.

Its quality is inconsistant with anything made out of silver. The bubbling surface and corrosion indicates plating of a pot metal.
