I’ve been cataloging finds and I was looking to narrow down the age of this .410 shell, being Winchester i didn’t think it’d be this difficult. I can’t find hardly anything on a shell marked with .410 -12 mm The best I can find is a site where the pics are gone but a poster says 1916-1930 something. Cartridge corner doesn’t have one with the 12mm that I could see… maybe someone here has already found out about this stamp and can help me out… if I had to guess with no made in USA 1916-1926.

I gleamed this off another site.

that was the only thing I found too. I just didn’t like that the pics were gone. Because sometimes there’s variations but they seemed knowledgeable enough and that was what I was basing my guess on.

@Red-Coat posted up something about not being able to view photos.

I have to be honest it was a bit above my pay grade for understanding how to do the work around.

I'm not sure if the site format doesn't keep up with the new technology or what.
But it sucks when references disappear.

The lowly .410 was invented by Eley in England in the 1850s I think. The first ones used the shorty 2” shells. They were first used in single shot cane guns. I’m sure every older English gentleman had one at the time.🤣 Then they were lengthened to 2.5”. Finally they went to the longer 3” that are standard now. A .410 with a full choke is okay for shooting birds on the wing but you have to be an exceptionally good shot.
