Anyone know anything about old shovels?

Not much going on so I figured I'd through this one out there. I found this shovel a while back and always wondered about its age. I looked up Ames the shovel makers and I read they have a museum. If all else fails I will contact them and try and pin point an age. I was just hopping,, just by the way Its constructed someone might have an idea on its age. I have a few guesses but I want to see what others think. I believe the way the triangle shaped piece is riveted to the actual shovel will tell the tale. 010.JPG 012.JPG
 

The other relics pictured(plumb bob, wedge & spikes kinda suggest to me that they may have been used in construction of a railroad and/or trestle

Yep, you are correct. The plump is modern that I know. The line was put in about late 1830's early 40's. My dad has a collection of about 200 old shovels and nothing this old. I am leaning towards hand made seeing rivets.

shovel 002.JPGshovel 003.JPG Here are some examples of older style shovels. As noted in the one picture, these date to the mid 1700's. The other shovel was found at a site that dates around 1800-1830.
