Bryan, it's hard to tell by looking at that picture, but in my non-wexpert opinion, it could be an old ring. Some jewelry today is marked "sterking" instead of just .925, but usually only the better stuff. My guess is that it's an older piece, and the stone is real. I would take it to a jeweler to have it looked at, they may be able to tell you for sure. Good luck, and happy hunting!!

alot of costume jewelry is very valuable....certain makers names, certain materials make the value jump......bakelite, early cut glass beads, several makers peices that once sold for a few dollars now worth hundreds.......google costume jewelry collections....i have listed many peices on ebay that were bought at auctions a whole box for two bucks..list seperatly, starting at a buck, and many have gone between 20 and 300 bucks.............gldhntr

I've sold more than my share of "costume jewelry" on ebay. I don't really know the stuff but I happened to live in a retirement area with lots of older folks. The garage sales used to be awesome here before they started those ebay services for the public. Now people without computers can just take their stuff to a local shop and they sell it all for them on ebay for a fee.

Anyway, back when I was getting the stuff from the garage sales, I was buying cheap gold plated costume jewelry made in the 1920's for like 10 cents each and selling it on ebay for up to about $50 each piece.

People buy certain old pieces because they collect this stuff...not because of it's intrinsic value.

Lots of fake jewelry is worth mega bucks! Find a piece that was designed by some famous designer of the early 20th century and it could be worth thousands. And the piece may be nothing but cheap metal and fake stones!

Rich folks in New York and California will pay big for the right pieces.

But...beware! There are many repros out there that were made in the 60's and 70's and these are worthless.

A carved Bakelite plastic bracelet can be worth $100 or more today. These sold in the 1940's for like 50 cents.
