I suggest you check out two books; one entitled 'Nevada Ghost Towns and Mining Camps' by Stanley W. Paher. The index does not list Findley but it does have many listings for Wadsworth and your local vicinity. Another book you may find interesting is 'Railroads of Nevada and Eastern California' by David F Myrick 469 pages loaded with 665 pics.
Happy Hunting,
Don.....
Thanks Don I have Nevada Ghost Towns and Minning Camps. It a good book and very informative. Pi was just wondering if their wss anyone from my part of the world is all.
Remember...that is mostly BLM land so watch your step. That being said there is a great pony express trail that goes through Stagecoach down to Dayton...and the Churchill River is a nice wade too....(shallow)...especially after a flood. I usually would find (in the old days) about one something an hour just cruising the desert (bring water and a hat). Look for core stones. Going out closer to Pyramid there are some great cracks in the desert (small canyons) to wander and look at the petroglyphs...(keep your eyes on the ground too). Go after a big rain and look in the flash flooded, desert streams. Hope this helps....Wander the sides of the mountains too.
Ok ill take that under advisement. Is the river the Church Hill River or the Carson River? I will have to take a look haven't been out that way for some time. Not much of anything as far as amenities. But then again Hwy 50 is the loneliest highway in America. Thanks for your help
whoa...I feel stupid! no no, yes... Carson river over by Fort Churchill! Aren't the building a new highway from Fernley to Silver Springs? I own property out that way....
Here is a good hint too....look at the horizon..at the hills...right?....Now spot a place on the side of the hill that sticks out a bit more than the rest of the landscape that is about half way up...you are looking for a good place to "camp" that has good visibility left, right, front....and check those scrubby looking junipers...they look small but some of them are HUNDREDS of years old. I love the hunt in NV. What am I saying....northern NV is pure magic. Nothing better than sitting in the Bucket of Blood and sip a been overlooking the valley up in Virginia City. For that matter, If you go down the valley from there (six mile canyon, I think it is called)....there is good hunting there too....get off the beaten track however...and mind that BLM.
