Anyone Hoarding BS?

I've got nearly a 5 gal. bucketful, but there's basically nothing
left in it. Sometime this winter I'll set up the "baking station"
and cook it up nice and hot, then toss it into a bucket of
ice water (or snow) and shatter it to see if there's anything
more it has to give.

Several of the members here send me their leftover BS
and I see if I can get more gold out of it. Any gold I do
find goes in the St. Jude Research Hospital bottle, and
come the end of 2015 that will be smelted and sold with
100% of the proceeds going to St. Jude.

BS doesn't take up much room, so just toss it in a
small bucket and save it for a rainy day..worst case
you've got a great doorstop or ashtray..:occasion14:

Thats a good cause!

I saw an assay of BS that came back showing extreme amounts of gold. Over 80 ounces per ton. So dont be surprised if there is much more gold than you think!

What will you use to separate the gold from the sands after cooking?

I have a miller table that does a great job of holding even the smallest
bits of gold. It's time consuming to run any volume of material, but
in the end it all adds up.

Did you ever test the bs after running thru the miller table?

Stannous chloride/purple cassius test?

Just curious if any of you keep your black sand after processing it thru your equipment and how much black sand you have.

I've been cautiously holding my BS until there timing is right. Kind of hard to classify it right now.

I spread mine on the driveway...for safekeeping

I am cautious about my BS too......

It goes in the flower beds, when I can't go to the sticks anymore I'll get serious about pulling out the fine gold.

I spread mine on the driveway...for safekeeping

Just don't spread it on too thick...:laughing7:

My drive way is gravel, and it seems the stuff evaporates as it's
always looking thin. I've run bucketful's of material through the
Gold Cube right on the driveway, and spread the tailings out to
help fill in spots.

I pan mine 3 times, and then keep what's left.

I have got a few buckets full. I'm thinking mercury, and a small mortar mixer, when I have time.....retirement probably.

ive either sold or donated my BS to clubs in the past from my area, for them to add to bags of cons for sale. Im sure theres some fine gold in them BUT ive run them 3 times to help eliminate that.

I only have the last couple years worth of magnetic bs and only a few months of no magnetic...gave the rest to Dizz. Was thinking to try heat shocking the magnetic material to see if I find gold.

Did a fire assay of a sample of non-mag bs a year ago and it came out 2.6grams of gold per ton, with a little silver too. Would be worth processing if only I had 200-300 tons!

Like Dizzy I always hold onto my black sands. I crush them down to about 400 mesh and then re-pan them and have always found more gold in them. What i can't get out with the pan is amalgamated with Mercury. I'm slowly building up a good batch of some very rich amalgam that will be run through a retort to separate the gold and mercury in a safe manner as well as allow me to recover the mercury for reuse. The sponge that's left in the retort will be melted down and cast into a mold so it stays separate from my other gold.

Please keep in mind that I was a lab tech and know how to work with this stuff. Amalgamation by Mercury is not something that should be attempted by the untrained! Mercury is some NASTY stuff and can really mess you up if not treated with a lot of respect! Never work with it around others and never let it out into the environment! Proper protective gear is a must have along with proper training to be able to handle it safely. Safety rant is now over!

Well I hoard Black sand that I bring home from the beach. Storms cover/uncover a lot of black sand. I bring it home run it through a beach sluice.

Keep a small bucket of dry BS near any wood decks, porches, etc in the winter time.
Use it instead of sand. Only use a very small amount it goes a long way.
The "quartz sand" will crush under foot traffic and is often round, but the BS will actually dig into the wood and keep you from slipping.
It's often "sharp" in shape and a little tougher.
We also pass this tip onto our commercial ops that run into the colder months.
It's simply not cost effective for many of them to process gold out of black sands and they'll trash it.

Golden nothing wrong with that rant
all ya miners read Chris Ralph artical Table of Contents: November 2014 (Vol. 84, No. 3) - ICMJ's Prospecting and Mining Journal) almost lost our right to use Hg

when i have process BS to the point i know i got most visble gold, save the super cons, when i am bored take table spoon at a time to mortor and pestle, em always amzed, so off to the impact mill, it's a dusty job, :hello2:then wash and dump the red iron dirty water in the garden, when all nice a clear, run again on the table, dust pile up all nice makes for a happy dance, end up most time with just a few grains 80oz to the ton, that would be sweet
