Hello,

I have been using garrett metal detectors for a long time and I'm looking into spending a bigger chunk of money in hopes of finding some better treasure. I was leaning towards the Garrett GTI 2500??? If you all have any recommendations or would be willing to meet up and give me a lesson/overview of another brand etc that would be great.

Thanks for your time, In the Cocoa Beach Area

i have one but im a looong way from Cocoa beach. what type of hunting will you do with it the most? (beach, coins, jewelry, relics etc). its not a hard machine to master but its not the best choice for all applications. its a good machine, but for certain styles of hunting there is better out there. it all depends on what you want to do with it.

I have had 2 of em. My opinion is its a good coin machine. Have been doing the beaches for some 23+ yrs, I would NOT suggest it for the beach, even though it advertises a salt mode.

Aaron, welcome aboard TreasureNet!

Based on your location, I would assume that you would want to do some beach hunting. However, if you are strictly a dry land hunter the Garrett 2500 would be a good choice. However, since you are on the coast, and if you plan on working the local beaches at all, I would recommend that you take a look at some of the beach and underwater machines. Using a land based machine on the beach and in the shallow water can be a recipe for disaster with the first rouge wave that sneaks up behind you.

Sounds like I should venture out a litte. Beach hunting is most common for me and I'm mainly trying to find Gold/Silver Coins & Jewelry. As Tom said the waves have ruined a few of my old systems and now I'm not venturing into the water except on flat days, even then I have to much interference noise. Ok well now recommendations!!! Tom I looked at the Minelab 1000 online and was curious how you like it?

Love it, and she has more than paid for herself. A little heavy up on the beach, outstanding under the waves. Since you are local, you are more than welcome to give it a test drive if you like.

Thanks Tom,

Well I have spent the last half hour reading the online PDF manual off of the Minelab website, looks like fun and will open a lot more opportunities for me in the water. I would enjoy meeting up, just let me know what day and time is good for you. The wife and I are headed to Wabasso beach on friday night to see what's washing up down south. One thought, when you have your dial setting all where you want them do you hear a constant humm from the headphones?

Since you are hunting beaches and likely digging everything, why not get an Infinuim?

A PI machine will give you 15-18 inches, much more than a TR machine.

And it's waterproof.

The book says to adjust the threshold until you can barley hear the background, and I often tweak it down just a bit more. I hear more wind blowing through the headset than I do background noise or the change of the frequency. Some minor adjustments will be required as you move from dry sand to wet sand, and then into the water.
