Found this unusual piece of costume jewelry in my Moms stuff. My Dad gave me some junk to try and find out if it has any monetary value.

It says Nettie Rosenstein on the back. I researched her jewelry a bit but couldnt find this portrait. Who is it and what is the rarity and value? I think its plated and looks like plastic on the front. I see 2 screws on the back but I dont know for what reason.

Thanks.

Picture brooch with rhinestones, probably 1940's

These are highly collectible

I think I found it in a pendant but no information or price.. scroll down #X13719

Who is he? Could it be sterling underneath the gold wash?

I dont feel much like searching since my mother passed away. Anything anyone can add will
be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think it depicts anyone in particular, just a representative image. I believe these were hand painted. I could be wrong though.

Looks like the 2 screws come off to replace the picture in the frame......NGE

WOW ...
I would definitely take this pc very very serious
looks like an miniatured portrate from the 18th century, at the very least
Don't take any offers on this item intill you have had it looked at by a professional
Best of luck

Don't know the value
But at this time I would not consider it costume
family heirloom
would have to look at the image first to see if its authentic
then the stones
then the metal
and of course the marking
These things can be some serious bucks
I'm not an expert but have seen many

I always research before I sell. But I will not go to an antique dealer for advice.

Thanks for the comments. Still looking for a dollar value.

also
i see the pc is thick, has screws
its very possible this item is holding something inside
Possibly a lock of hair of the person in the portrait
Let me know what happens

I think its a generic portrait because morningloryantiques has a matching pendant. Nellie Rosenstein made costume jewelry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nettie_Rosenstein I dont know if the portrait is rare but not one of a kind because we know that at least one other exists, I suspect many more, but maybe still valuable.

Ill take the screws out and look.

Might find a signature when you pop it apart

Thomas Jefferson? You got to be... :icon_scratch:

Red coat, epaulettes, medal and star, black cravat = military, and not U.S. :P

It is a costume piece, not a rare miniature portrait.

Circa 1940? :dontknow:

Its definitely costume jewelry made by Nellie Rosenstein. That was established in the opening post. I already posted the Wiki link. I am trying to determine the value. They appear to be collectible. Thanks. Some of the comments made me chuckle a little too. ;D

So tell us something we dont know. In your opinion, is it British or French? 8) :dontknow:

not saying its any historical figure, I know someone mentioned it
likely a family member that served in the war, in general.
I would not discount this pc, I don't see portrait being from the 40s
BUT perhaps the decoration is

Its not one of MY family members. At this point I dont know who it is or where the uniform comes from. It reminds me of several people but I havent really got a clue.

A quick search of odd Nellie Rosenstein items were priced at $400- $1,500 each. Im hoping this costume piece will have similar value. Maybe Breezie can help. http://www.decodame.com/jewelry/nettie_rosenstein.htm

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate any help.

Ah, the crime of repetition. ::) Didn't know we were playing for points. :-*

British or French? It's a costume piece. Made in USA... oh, wait, that's already been established? :hello:

Black stock and white wig leans towards Anti-Jacobin. Possibly supposed to be a KoB.

As a "arm-wavy" thing, red is for Brits, blue for French, green or white for Russian, white for Austrian... blue for U.S., black for U.S. presidents.

OK thanks.... I think. :icon_scratch: What points? :dontknow: I guess the kiss means you like me. 8)

Was I being out of line for not searching value or uniform ID of my own piece?

Sorry if I said something wrong.... I dont mean to offend you. Thanks for the colors. :icon_thumright:

I wanted to say Im sorry Lucas but you said it first. Looking back on my post it may have sounded rude when I said "tell me something we dont know." I meant exactly that. (I thought you could help with something we dont know).

I guess its safe to say its a generic portrait of someone British. :dontknow: It looks like junk to me but some of these old costume jewelry pieces have value and this may be one of them. Not a heirloom sorry Brady. Just costume jewelry brooch but in good condition.

I think possibly it opens up for a lock of hair or maybe to change the picture. I havent opened it yet. Gotta go out and eat. :hello:

Thanks..
