Has anybody seen something like this before or know the meaning of the symbol? It was found many years ago somewhere in the Caribbean. I don't know where exactly.

Not sure but it has the weight consistent of something made of concrete. It's about 18" tall and 12" diameter at the widest point. Obviously the emblem was upside down in the first post as it is a vase.

Looks a lot like a crucible for melting metal. Maybe the symbol was added after it was taken out of use. or most likely it was never used if that is what it is.

Hello soflmudding,

Thanks for the properly oriented photo. You've not presented much information, save "It was found many years ago somewhere in the Caribbean. I don't know where exactly."

It appears to be a middle to late period flat bottomed olive jar. The stylized Cross Lorraine is throwing me for a loop. It implies a Jesuit origin.

Do you have any more backstory? Could'ya take natural light photos of the bottom and the glazed cross?

You might have a look here: Pottery from Spanish Shipwrecks, 1500-1800 - Mitchell W. Marken - Google Books

I don't think the cross of Lorraine is it as I have looked and never seen any variation that has markings above the top bar. The closest marking I have seen is the Chinese symbol for ox which doesn't make much sense.
