Im Going to be hitting Old Clear Creek Gold Tailing piles. Anybody have any tips or system of where to start moving Piled Creek Rock. I got gloves and a rake. (A shovel does not cut it.) I wish to check below the piles for any gold with my Whites GMT Goldmaster. In the past many drunk & Tired miners missed gold and some had clay covering quartz & Gold. I know in the old day it was by sight and some long sluce troffs had stuff fell out.some screens were only for the big stuff not the gram size. I am not able to use a backhoe, so that is out. Besides the excercise and time, some tips would be great.

I have used a large rake to pull down old commercial dredge tailing piles. They missed a fair bit of gold.

Thanks tnet Member CoinHunterAZ for the tip. I was searching this forum site and I found a site dedicated to gold search with MD. I think I just might ask this question on the "Metal detecting for gold" Forum which I'm getting into and might check gold prospecting too. I've met alot of good friends/members on this "metal Detecting" are going for Coins, Artifacts etc. and not much in Nugget shooting. Have a super great day & good luck in your hunt.

You will find the best gold in the tailing piles where the bigger rocks are located because the were the last thing that was mined or dredged, they are the last thing before you hit the bedrock The bigger the rocks the better the gold.
