Any suggestions?

Just took this knife handle(?) out the e-tank. It cleaned up quite well! The “before” pic is actually after it had sat in vinegar for probably over a week (before we discovered electrolysis). But this rust still on the inside and on top is crazy stubborn. I’m afraid if I keep it in the e-tank, it may just fall apart. I’ve scrubbed and scrubbed the top and it’s not budging. Should I just leave as is? Or is there something else I can try to remove it? Also....is it a knife handle?? Thanks!

My husband and I just started digging. It was also one of our first finds. I'm assuming it's pretty old due to the severe rust and just thought it was a neat find.

Use a hair dryer and dry it as completely as possible. Once dry, get a small can of polyurethane and coat it completely, then mount it when dry.

As a long time digger I know what Terry is saying. The stuff will start piling up to the point of it's just time to chuck all this rusty old crap and get my back porch back!

I understand the first find idea completely, I started hunting native american artifacts many years ago and have the first of each thing i found. But scrappers, mannos, tools and broken points just end up in my flower beds now. Now that i started metal detecting, I only keep really cool finds so I do not over accumulate junk.

Yea I have chunked some of my stuff already that I thought was "neat looking" but had the slightest clue what it could be. I'm good at fabricating what it could be and talk myself into keeping it lol But this specific thing, when I dug it, it looked like a pocket knife rather than a knife handle. On one side had a slightly larger opening than the other, giving it the impression of where a blade would be flipped out from. After cleaning, it looks about the same width and more like a handle. Just seems really old and I like it lol
