Any Ideas what this copper is?

Found at old home site with a grave yard. It had a bottom but disintegrated when I took it out of the ground.

Was the bottom also copper? Was the bottom flat or was it shaped like the other half? Breezie

You definitely have a strange item, and since it looks like a combination of both brass and copper, I think it could be a Victorian collar button.

looks like a cuff link to me. the middle clasp thing would be used to widen the cuff itself and keep it spaced out.

Am I seeing correctly that there's a hole in the rod portion? Does it go all the way through, and is it threaded? And lastly, are there grooves on the oval part that would accomodate a rod going through the existing one (or attatch to it, perpendicular to the existing one)?

Maybe had a spring inside , wind the side pieces lay on a flat surface and it takes off walking.? toy?

Might be a bell that was used in some religions for the deceased to notify someone that they were in fact "alive!" A line was attached from the casket to the bell. Sometimes postmortem muscle movements caused the bell to ring even when actual death had occurred! Hence the term,"dead ringer". I ain't maken this stuff up! It was found at a burial site, so it might be worth looking into.

No hole no threads and it smooth all over except for the tit on the shaft and small grove on the shaft end.

There were many varieties of these things of course, but this one is close.
