Any ideas on this sphere?

The black areas are magnetic (see magnet in 1st photo). It's 4 1/2 inched in diameter. Purchased at a garage sale for $2.

Does magnetite "spider" out like the magnetic dark areas on this sphere?

I tried to get a better close up but this is the best I could do, doesn't show too much but it may help-

Seems to be hydrothermally deposited magnetite, but the host rock is more difficult to say.
Probably quartz is somewhere there in the equation as hydrothermal activity rarely excludes it. :coffee2:

Thanks EU. I can't resist buying rocks and spheres when I see them at sales. Just wish I knew what half of them were. :-\

No problem, I personally like to collect them myself and when possible cut them also.

Here is for example a smokey quartz I cut with my own design to make it look like a cross in the stone:
