Probably a stone fishing weight. And welcome to TreasureNet Bull.

If it's the real deal it looks like a bolo stone to me.. It also looks like it broke in half a very long time ago

Another gentleman i hunt with some thought it the same. I haven't a clue and have not had any luck finding anything like it on the web. Thanks!

You are gonna have to explain this one. I have never heard of this. I am interested in learning more. Thanks.

You might want to take a look at tie on atlatl weights

You're welcome I'm leaning towards atlatl weight because of the fact it's flat on the back and the grooves appear to taper off instead of being broken through

that is a stone age mouse - incredible find! whatever it is, it looks cool.

I first thought it was a turtle effigy. Thanks.

this is not a bad guess, functional not decorative...

I'm not a geologist (but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night), however I would think that those cut lines would have a darker patina if those were ancient cuts.

I had the same thought that's why I started by saying "if it's the real deal" It seems to me if it were ancient whoever made the back flat would have made the groves at the same time and the patina would be the same... I tried not to speculate on that part

They maybe darker under the dirt still embedded in the cuts. I have yet to give it a thorough cleaning. It probably will keep the dirt and end up in a case with the other native american pieces I have collected. ( glad u stayed at that hotel, I stayed at motel 6, Tom Burdette's lights kept me up.)
