looks like a byzantine coin of some sort

Very nice looking hammered. I can't ID as its not my area, but it looks great & probably about 14th C.

I have no idea, but the second pic makes me think of one of my favorite albums....

You are the Man, Don! Right on.

Cool hammered coin, congratulations! :occasion14:

Asked for an ID and it is one of the Dukes of Venice. This one is Doge Francesco DANDOLO from 1329-1339.

The Obverse is Nimbate Jesus Christ Pantocrator, enthroned, with IC to left and XC to right in fields.
The Reverse is the Doge (Duke) standing, facing, receiving banner from the Patron saint of Venice - St Mark

Inscription is [F]RA(ncesco) DANDOLO S(an) M(arc) VENETI with DVX vertical by banner.

Took me a while to find but the example fits although it may not be the actual coin denomination found unless it is silver.

Above is what Cru'dad sent last night, I'm just glad my 14th C guess was good, lol

Shes a beauty! Still trying to break into the 1800's myself. So jealous!

Brilliant.... Deep thanks and gratitude.... It's silver; YES.

banner I would faint if. I found that after I checked to see that the wife and kids werent playing a trick on me to keep me out of the house

Don should quit whatever he is doing and become a private detective or CSI forensic dude! He's indeed the MAN for solving many mysteries here on T-net.:icon_thumright:

Excellent very old coin you have there. Congrats on snagging a real GEM!:headbang:

Many thanks... I think there is a way to do business here... I hope I will start that soon... Seems like the best forum on the planet for this.
