Some of the more unique or rare finds are put up on the banner at the top of the page. There will be a picture for each banner find and if you click on the picture it will take you to the thread of that find. It just gives your find a nice little spotlight and you get some recognition from the T-Net community.
I agree, it is not very pretty, but we are just so fascinating with the history of the piece - and how it came to the US. There is one difference in this trade weight than any I've seen- (although maybe it's our imagination). In the photo where I am holding the disc and the hallmark is showing, there are tiny raised round dots in a pattern around the piece just inside the raised lip. It is not as easy to see in the photo as when we look at it live.
Thanks again for all your input, it has been so remarkable learning about trade weights!

Sorry to hear that, I understand how much a Dog becomes part of the family. Keep positive, & dig out every signal you get.Thank you Crusader. We are going back today to see if we can find anything else. I emailed a couple of archaeologists in our area but being summer, I haven't heard back from them yet. I appreciate all your help, this had been a great distraction as our family dog passed the day before we found this and keeping our mind on history is much better.

I'm making up a theory here, but if you had 16th C British Ships in the area (like recorded in the history books), then It would seem logical to me to make 'port' in a safe place, & a small Island would be perfect. I also assume they maybe able to take small boats to the mainland?
