Any idea what these letters came off of??

Hey all.

I was detecting at my brother in laws house. Supposedly one of the oldest houses in that area. I found these next to the road. Any idea what these came off of? They feel to be made of heavy metal. thanks!

I'll bet it is off one of those old mailbox tops with the owners name on top
