What makes it a reproduction in your eyes Iron Patch ... just curious . I mean your not holding it in your hand and never asked what it was made of ... are you assuming . Reproductions have to be marked as reproductions if they are to be sold illegitimately to tourists . Maybe you can tell me if it's a counterfeit or reproduction if you where holding it , then weighing it and also checking what is was made from ... but I can't tell anyone that a coin is faked or a reproduction without more information on this coin and that this one may have been made in copper or bronze means it's Spanish but maybe not the Gold 8 Escudo . Don't get upset with me about this but I just want to know how you came to such a solid conclusion on it being a Modern Repo ... HH , Woodstock
Modern reproduction Spanish gold 8 Escudo.

It was probably gold plated to look like a gold coin at one time, because as it is now doesn't make sense. (although there really isn't much criteria when it comes to creating fake coins) Besides that, it just looks like a reproduction based on experience, and once you see enough they are easy to pick out. I buy and sell coins, all an online thing, and would have over 100 hammered coins not more than 6 feet from where I'm typing from. Unfortunately it's fake, and anyone telling you otherwise is just guessing and doesn't really know. These get posted quite often, where as genuine large silver cobs hardly ever do, and a gold 8 Escudo... never!
