Its funny, they cant make a waterproof cap today but they claim to have it on your old musket cap tin, "Warranted Waterproof." Caps were very short lived, as cartridges took over. I never had a waterproof cap. I wish I did. I had to switch to shotgun primers because the humidity alone would ruin my caps.

How do you put shotgun primers on the nipples? Just curious, but it seems that would be tough? Thank you in advance,

You have to change the breech plug to accept shotgun primers instead of a cap and nipple. I dont think you can use them on the old sidelocks you are thinking of... only on in-line blackpowder rifles with removable breech plug. With my old sidelock I have to keep changing the cap with a fresh one.

It used to contain replacement o-rings for Kanuter Valves. Kanuter Valves are no longer used in modern vehicles, what with computers and all controlling the innards of your engine, so it might be VERY VALUABLE!

Open it, already!

Either Kanuter Valves or Finnigan Pins. :wink:Neither is in use today on modern vehicles.

Are those the ones that needed to be pre-lubricated using a LH Funnel-lange salve?
I still have several still packaged in waxed paper and cosmoline.

Hope ya find out what that tin was as I have found its twin here in michigan, the only exception is mine has a small hinge on the back but contents even look identical, mine was found in an area that was popular during the mid 1800's. My thought was a makeup tin. I'll keep watching to see what comes of this. Great find bud! keep up the great work!

I think what is inside is dirt that has seeped in over the years when wet.
