The lid is extremely tight. Almost seems like its fused shut. I'm gonna work on getting it open tonight. I was thinking compac too. Whatever is in it sounds like it might be some kind of powder.

Soldering Flux, Lip/Hand Balm, Medical Salve. Could be any of these but they all have writing on the container. An all gold colored container might be a woman's compac of make-up.

It used to contain replacement o-rings for Kanuter Valves. Kanuter Valves are no longer used in modern vehicles, what with computers and all controlling the innards of your engine, so it might be VERY VALUABLE!

Open it, already!

Either Kanuter Valves or Finnigan Pins. :wink:Neither is in use today on modern vehicles.

Did you find the standing liberty today too??? Sorry I missed the hunt. Too rainy for me. Did I miss any other good stuff?

Yea.... I found the standing Liberty today also. OK... As anti-climactic as possible. Here is the inside.
I dumped out the dirt (not sure how it got in there), and this is what was left. It is packed in like a rock. The dirt is what sounded like powder. I have no clue what it is.

It was found in a location with plenty of history. Found musket balls all around the same area also. Probably doesn't mean anything though.

tobacco / snuff tin

The size and shape might suggest a snuff tin. Wish there were some markings on it.

Tin for percussion caps - like this

Without the paper label of course)

Just my guess, but if you found musket balls around it would be no surprise to find cap tins as well.

I was thinking percussion cap tin myself. Could be percussion cap tin that was converted to hold snuff.
