Very nice, I would have brought them for putting my mug of tea on.

They are in a 'European Medieval Style'. Not British, maybe Austrian. I think maybe 100-150 year old.

Any marks in the on the back?? The one with the shield on the front, looks like a stylized pottery mark. Austrian or maybe Prussian? Just guessing though..

No marks on the back that I am aware of I guess I could try knocking the old mortar off the back I can see they are made of red clay though

I don't know sutphin but these things are driving me nuts not being able to find these symbols lol

They do have crazing up close

But I read red clay doesn't hold as much moisture so it would be less profound

There is another member here that places Craig's List adds in foreign countries, asking if anybody can identify something. He claims a high success rate, all for free. I'd start with Austria or Germany, large towns.

They also seem to have a slight oily shine to image where the paint is held at certain light

Go to Craigslist world. Pick city, then go to top right and pick English as language.

I looked at these for a while the other night. I think they are "vintage" medieval style tiles. Mid-20th C.

Here are some on Etsy bought at an estate sale in the 90's:

They cleaned up well. Nice hand made tiles. An art historian specializing in european heraldic art, or even european pottery would be a better source for ID.

I guess early to mid 19th century.

Good luck. Tile is harder than jewelry to source an origin. Records were rarely kept once product lines were discontinued. And tiles were easily made to order, too.

If these are not replicas of earlier art, the heraldic images do have a much older vibe. I've done research in the past on heraldic symbolism, and I have a book with line art that these resemble. To me these look similar to some 14th century and later works shown in that book. Theyre pretty simplified, which tends to make one think old, but anything is possible and they could be 18th century replicas of a tile that existed in a church from the 1500's.

Whoever had owned them and had them installed had wealth, like a church, or merchant. You should be able to find a registry of family crests and coats of arms on the web. That might help.

Good luck!

Dutch probably and very old. The code of arms will help you. I agree with deft tone. About era it's like my stuff as you now. Where did you find such? What state? You have that nack.
