Found this near a foundation of an old house. The date is unknown but I believe the foundation to be from the early 1800's.

I have no idea what it is nor does anyone I ask. It is all metal and fairly heavy. The picture is to show the approximate size compared to my hand.

Any help would be appreicated. Thanks

I've looked at several pictures of antique curry combs and it doesn't look anything like them. Any other guesses?

It might be a fleece comb. Used to prepare wool for spinning.

I'd buy that for a dollar. :icon_sunny:

Definitely not a curry comb, it may be a mane and tail comb...which is doubtful.

Its too fancy to have been used for horse grooming.

The possible uses could be as a tierra.

It just looks like a very antique girls (or womans) comb... if you've ever watched any really old school movies, they sit in front of their mirrors and use combs exactly like that to comb through their long hair.

I thought of that too but it is too heavy to be a womans comb. Besides the fact that it is metal. I will weight it when I get home but I would guess almost a pound or so.

A pound??? Oh gosh... yeah, that definitely rules out a personal comb. nm
I mean, old combs used to be made out of metal like pewter and silver... but nothing that heavy would be practical at all.
Weird.
Hope you find out what it was for!! :)

That's it a Afro Pick. He said it weights a pound that answers another question. That is the reason their pants are hanging down to their knees.

BigCypressHunter,

I think you are correct. That was first thought that it was a mane comb but I could not find a picture on the internet to verify it.

The picture you found explains it perfectly.

I will concur that it is a Horse's mane comb. Thanks everyone for the input.

:)
