I picked this up at a yardsale today for a buck. It's age attracted me. If you cannot tell me maker; location and approximate age or even what this is called would help.
This pottery was purchased blank or plain and was decorated by a local person for sale. This is very common but you did not get hurt on the price you paid. It is like home craft china.
Actually this is a comment on trdking's response..... I did not know that pottery was often purchased plain then decorated locally. Was this a 19th century thing? 20th century? It would explain some old shards I have dug up.... a lot of plain stoneware pieces but some with designs I cannot identify. What's more, some of the plain shards have remains of pencil marks in the shape of leaves! Were there that many local craftsmen who could decorate ceramics like this?
