I think the patented piece reminded me of a cable clamp I had on my boat but its probably not if it doesnts split open. Is there a screw in the hole?

It's a bakelite material with copper wire embedded into it. The way it's broken off i'm thinking the original piece may have been quite a bit larger, maybe double this size with an oval shaped hole in the middle?

That rules out lead wire seal. Im thinking its an electric part because of the copper wire and bakelite insulator. That narrows it down a little. Maybe radio, toaster, appliance, heater, capacitor or auto electric part.

Could it be a blown electrical fuse?
