Antique Cannon (Estate Sale find)

"We"? People who know about historic artillery and its manufacture.

And if you know... then I guess you know.

Funny though... you should know that ALL were CAST POURED MOLDED.

YOU GUYS must have missed that one. :p

Want some better drawings that only exist in private ? ? ? heh

Might have to wait a bit... OR forever beings the owners #1 wouldn't care about any of this... #2. they have remained privatized for a reason.. #3. why bother,,, you already know.

:)

Shesh now I have to go back and clean up this thread with deleting half or more of my posts... beings I am lost now.

hmmm but beings the OP has basically been told he has a lawn ornament... whats the point.

Great place to debate cannon and its manufacture. :)

Molds are how most things of any consequence were made...

Mold making is a 6000-year old skill passed on through... working in the same technique that is passed to our children and grandchildren...

Stone molds for making axes has been found dating back to 3000 BC.

With the exception of bladed weapons almost ALL others have been cast for eons... INCLUDING your flintlock parts etc etc etc.

OH.. and err back to bladed ... even those had cast / molded parts.

lol.. oh brother... not you 2. :/

No , I wrote no cannons poured , meaning no cannons poured in the foundry I worked in. (Lest folks think otherwise when I'm posting about being in the foundry industry , and cannons..)

C'mon AARC , you can read my mind better than that...

Before I leave I would just like to throw a few more bones out in this thread...

There are some "key" words that will point anyone interested / learning aspect that can begin the trail off the beaten normal paths...

One of which is "Gunfounding"... "gun founding"... "gun foundry" and variations thereof.... etc.

OH and here...

Heres a nice plate for SB...

From... "The Art of Gunfounding"... "The Casting of Bronze Cannon in the Late 18th Century."

That is a nice looking gun. Congrat's on a nice piece of History. That would enhance any collection for sure.
