Hi treasurenet forum! Any suggestions as to year and what/where this bottle came form. It has NO markings/embossing, only see a ring pontil car on base of bottle and it looks like it is at least 100 years old.

As always, thank you for suggestions!

Are you sure that there's a scar on the bottom? The lip is a mineral finish, one that looks pre 1870, but I am not so sure it is pontIed. Nice bottle, I would be thrilled to have dug it.

Your bottle is commonly referred to as a Brandy or sometimes a Scotch bottle.
By the Applied top finish (distinguished by the extra glass below the top) it was made in the 1870's -1880's.
Although it does have the bulbous neck, commonly referred Ladies Leg bottles contained Bitters and had longer necks and were much taller. (in the 12" area)
A great find.
I would be checking that area a lot more...
Below a picture of my collection of "Ladies Legs".

Whisky or cordial bottle, imho. Maybe older bottles are waiting... good luck!

I think that it is an old, Madeira Wine bottle from the mid 1800s. Trust me, if anybody would recognize this bottle it would definitely be a piratess like myself... We've raided and pillaged this tiny island for centuries and pilfered galleys full of this fine wine! :skullflag:

Seriously though, a 300 year old bottle of this wine sold for $39,000.00 at Christie's Auction House.

When I was young grandpa took me on a hunt into the very hard to reach mountains in Colorado to an abandoned gold camp...
Was snow everywhere... year round I think... but not that cold...

There was this hole with water right outside a bullet riddled shack...
beautiful blue water...

I could see to the bottom... hundreds of very old bottles... all intact.

I have a few similar ones from a shipwreck in the early 1800's, which I bought for $15 each. Yours looks slightly newers, 1850's is my guess. Awesome find, my oldest dug bottles are only from the 1880's. Finding one like that would be a dream for me, especially complete.
