Joe,
Received your piece in the mail yesterday. I cleaned it a little bit more. Looks like it reads "LTORK". This looks like some sort of modern piece of clothing (Like a zipper end or something). I am fairly certain that it is not ancient. I will try to get some good pics of it tomorrow. It is however interesting. I am trying to get a positive ID on it.

Regards,

Gunner

Thank you sir. That'll be my luck it being modern. Is interesting though. Alot of the lot has cleaned up nicely . Still have quite a few unidentifiables though.

Post them and they shall be identified :)

Here is the object. I'm fairly certain this is modern but am not sure what it is. Perhaps a zipper end?

You got the letters showing good. I had hoped it was ancient since it came as ancient roman. Still interesting. Could this one be a Byzantine coin like the pic found on net. Thanks for all the help gunner. How do you suggest the cleaning of small coins . First pic is from net. other 3 are mine.

it does look Byzantine. Can you get a pic in natural sunlight? That sometimes helps. Cleaning is a very tricky thing. It really depends on the type of encrustation and preservation state of the coin. If you'll take pics of the coins you are getting ready to clean, I may be able to offer specific suggestions. I'll get your zipper end in the mail Monday :).

antoninianus of Claudius II Gothicus? Can you get a clearer pic? Here is an example of the coin I am referring to (After his Death "CONSECRATIO" reverse and "DIVO CLAVDIO" Obverse). Radiate crown portrait??

The first one is what I thought it was Claudius II Gothicus DIVUS Issue...pretty decent shape too :). The second one is probably Islamic..I have very little knowledge of these coins..other than their Islamic inscriptions.
