Well I do "like" it... I have absolutely no idea buddy. The wood appears in the copper. Is this right? If not... how is it attached to the copper?

The wood goes inside like a handle. I put an aroow pointing to what I perceive as being a crimp, and I would speculate that the wood maybe goes to that point.

It reminds me of something from school days, some what like the thing they used to point at maps with.

It does resemble the old school pointers. I will investigate that thought.

IMO... Mojax is close.

My guess is also a type of Marlinspke... only it is called a "Fid".

I confess, I had to look up what a Marlinspike is. (learn something new every day!)
There are lots of spellings on this one, so, probably has a long history.
Also, "marling-spike"

Yes... and "Marlin Spike" is common.
But...
I do not think that this is a marlinspike for the main reason of copper being involved.

Copper is too soft for "prying" on a day to day level.

A "Fid" as I suggested is a tool that was used in various areas other than ropes.
Less strenuous ones in other words.
