I found this in one of our out buildings . We got an old farmhouse last spring and I keep finding neat stuff .
At first I thought it was an old soap box for camping . It was all covered with bird crap , but it cleaned up nicely .It seams to be some sort of stove . I'm not sure what type of thing would be heated on it . It seems to small to heat a pan , and those metal pieces that flip up are not over the burner . It must have a special purpose . It is marked '' D.R.G.M No. 44638 . It's 2'' wide by 3 1/2'' when it's closed . Any info will be greatly appreciated . Thanks

OK, couldn't find it on the net.

I wrote to the German Patent office. I supplied them with the patent number and asked them to tell me what the object is and when it was made.

I'll tell you the info when they get back to me.

I know (ok google knows) that it is before 1945. They stopped using the DRGM in 1945.

That's a curling iron heater! The long slot where the alcohol flame is matches the length of the iron. The handles rest on the cradle part.Glad I'm not a girl!

that is definately a handwarmer...you can put fuel in the area to the left, light it, and then place the handwarmer in your pocket...don't leave it in your pocket after you take the jacket off with it burning though!!! They still sell similar items in the camping isle in Wall-mart..Cheers! :)

SORRY!, NOT a hand warmer! see the oval slot, you must open the lid to light the fuel, now how can you close the lid with the fuel door open, the type you are thinking of has a lid you open to expose a wick which is lit, then cap the lid, not in this case!

Interesting point that I had not thought of!!! Perhaps the left side is actually a wick of some kind under the folding cover, and it needs to be saturated with some kind of oil or other fuel? Is there any kind of small liquid storage area under the hinged part on the left?

It is some type of burner with the stand to suspend something over the flame. That would be the obvious guess anyway. The date is very possibly very late 1800's, they went to a 6 digit DRGM number shortly after 1900. Still looking to see exactly what it was meant to heat.
