so odd I go 3 yrs and only dig brass and aluminum thimbles and after today I have my THIRD sterling thimble this season!

I spotted an old farm that was just tore down last night, located the owner and secured permission. Not a lot of finds, but I am more than happy with the results. I will stop again when I have time and go over the heavy iron with TTF to see what I missed. Got some wheats, 1900 V nickel, and a 1930 dog tag in the shape of a dog's head. I dug one similar to this last year. And the silver thimble I was sure was going to be a silver quarter, solid 12-47 signal at 7"........ :hello2:

my best guess is kids take em outside to play with, lay them down and walk away! Kids are good at that!

Would you rather sit outside and darn socks, or sit in a stuffy house, heated by a hot stove you slaved over all day? :icon_scratch: I envision the housewife taking her darning outside for a change of scenery, coolness, or watching over kids playing. That's what I would do, except I have A/C!! ;D

Dog tags (or tax), are very collectible. Sold a 1932 Dog Tax, dog tag, I dug last year on EBAY for $65. Was in the shape of "32".

I might have to look into that! Very nice finds, by the way.
