Had a banner coin day with little trash yesterday at my old Orange Grove Plantation permission. Had another days hunt with smallfoot, who had another rock'n day himself!

Here is the best dig, on video! https://photos.app.goo.gl/JWc4uYqRRyNbSXC79

Ending with this being dug out of the hole:
1917 Mercury Silver dime.jpg

Along with these Wheat Cents; 1915, 1925, 1941, 1945, 1952, 1957. Funny, the worst condition is the '57!

This day marks the 4th "Box Axe" I have found so far. These were used when the area's pine trees were used to collect sap from them. The sap would be literally distilled, with the steam gases being collected forming turpentine, and residue left made into rosin. I have been told that Box Axes were stopped being used prior to 1910. I have also found two standard wood axe heads!

I also unearthed three chunky pieces of copper, which thickness range between 7/32" - 1/4". I filed the edge of one piece, and a corner, and it is solid copper through & through. Trying to determine what these could possibly be a part of. As you see, they are fairly flat. The Fourth piece is a tapered piece of brass/bronze. Tapered from 3/8" to 1/4", and about 1-1/4" wide with partial holes at each end of the 3" in length piece.

And yet another half of a silver plated copper/brass pocket watch case; a key, and a "what'z it"?

Nice saves...those wheats are in pristine condition for playing dead a bunch of years! Of course, gotta love any silver that comes out the ground too! Looks like your plantation is a great place, Iโ€™m thinking it will produce nice finds for a long time...Ddf.

Thanks much, but Oh, I work very hard at making those wheaties come back to life. I do things that collectors would not be happy about!! But the only collector that is going to see them, will be the one that gets them when I'm 6' under, so no worries here

Congrats on the great finds!

Chip killed it on the coins on this hunt. It's a large place and we split up this time and searched different areas. We've learned that there was a trading post or company store on site and I've been trying to narrow that place down. Along with a turpentine still on site and the store or trading post, I think those large pieces of copper are part of the boiler for the turpentine still. I hit a place with lots of glass on every dig and dug up two large chunks of a Fairbanks scale along with other targets in close proximity.

Also found some harmonica reeds and parts to 2 separate pocket knives. A turpentine hack too! I believe Chip found several of these so far along with all the axes.
