As a few of you know I seem to have an uncanny ability to find shoe buckles and shoe buckle pieces. I found 3 completes and a few very nice frames my first year. Didn't find much today but another frame and a small fragment. Also dug the smallest little pewter button at about 6". This thing is so small that my pointer would barely make a noise when it was touching it. The pic is blown up a ton but trust me it is tiny.

I have the uncanny ability to not find shoe buckles, not one of the larger complete buckles and this is my 14th year. The plow doesn't seem to miss to many beats smashing them up in my fields.

What I like better than your finds, is the age of the sites you are digging because if you keep posting this stuff there's some really great on the way.

Sweet buckle, ur like the buckle magnet!

That's a nice frame. ID be happy to add it to my collection

I've never seen a buckle before with a partial pin for the tongue and chape. Good find!

Congrats on a Great looking buckle. Like ip said your going to find something really great soon with all these good post! HH!

Congrats on a great buckle.

Awesome buckle, but that pewter button freaked me out. I found a very tiny pewter button today as well! It's not as small as your button, but it is smaller than a dime. It was 8" down and my only decent find today.

Here's a couple of pics:

Thanks IP my research has consistently put me on nice old sites. I've become much better with my machine this first year so I think I'm gonna have to revisit lots of my early sites.
As for the shoe buckles I think it's because most of my sites are on the edges of rivers with no plow activity. None have been deeper than 3 or 4". I'll find a good one some day
Here's a few of my buckles

Thanks bud I'm gonna make a nice custom display soon. Might make a few and see how they're received

Thanks collector. I've found beautiful Spanish silver, an awesome Patriotic button, an old Belgian pistol barrel, lots of nice Draped Busts and King George's but just can't seem to find that one stunner. Some day. Any of us who put the research and time in will get that elusive white whale some day....hence my name lol

Thanks to all of you for the nice comments. I wish this area was easier to hunt as I'm sure I'm missing a lot. But late fall or spring it will be easier

The stunner will come... and it's interesting to think of what it will be because there's no way to prepare for it, or have any idea what to expect.

The one question I have is.... are you digging a lot and just posting the best stuff for each hunt, or is it more sort of random finds that add up? If it's random finds that would indicate you're close, but not actually finding the site.... and the site is where you clean up. Learning the detector well sure saves time, but being able to locate the site and hot spots is the much more valuable to you and makes for much greater success, and this is something that takes time to be good at.

Well the issue I have right now is that I just don't have much time. I get out once a week for a few hours. These finds came from the same site that I was at least weekend where I found the 13 buttons and the copper. But I'm just posting the highlights from each 3 or 4 hour hunt. I do think I've hit a few hot spots on sites but also believe there's lots that I haven't really gotten into. I need to have a nice full weekend of hunting to really sink my teeth into. Now that I work for myself it may happen
