This morning I met up with Mikewaz at Bill T's spot for Rosies. We were supposed to meet Bill there as well but he couldn't make it. I ground-balanced my detector a new way, so that it locks the ground conditions as opposed to tracking it automatically (I have previously hunted it in tracking mode for the most part). I read about it on the White's forum, it is supposed to eliminate a lot of the iron grunts (which I don't have a big problem with, but figured it might help clear up the sounds of the high tones). Well, my very first target was a silver Rosey, which was mingled amongst trash! Not even five minutes into the hunt! So, of course, being on the board with silver early is always a great thing. After that, things dropped off. A lot of 60's clad, a wheat here and there. Kermit and Mary arrived and they began finding some clad too. Well, after a while we all got a little tired of digging clad, so I led the gang to a spot nearby I have researched with Mikewaz. A small picnic grove surrounded by woods. The place was super trashy and the ground was highly mineralized. It sounded like I was detecting a carpet of iron and bottlecaps.
Kermit informed me he was going to leave as I was heading toward a path going into the woods, and about two minutes later, I dug an Indian head cent, back clear as day but the front was very dirty. I pushed into the woods even deeper, thanks to my 98% DEET spray! Man, that stuff is toxic. I spritzed myself with it three times and every mosquito within shouting distance fell to the ground like Nancy Kerrigan. I'm hooked on that stuff now. Too bad it doesn't come in larger bottles, however, the little spritzer does fit nicely in my pocket.
So, it was a great day to be out, and I worked my culo off to be rewarded modestly, but hey, that's how it goes sometimes, and it makes more productive days even better! Nice to meet Mary, and to be out again with the homeboys Kermit and Mike. I hope you all have productive weekends!
