There was a super low tide today so I thought I would try the spot where I found the two massive mortar fragments a few years ago. I found these two frags a year apart and was thrilled to see that they fit together. Today I think I found a third piece. Same thickness but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to break the other two pieces out of the frost to see if this third piece fits. Give the location I found it I am sure it's from the same ball. This piece I found today is 27 pounds...the other two pieces are 26 pounds and 28 pounds....that would have been one huge mortar!

I also found the usual musket balls and assorted finds including a silver which will be very difficult to ID. I can just make out a border on each side. It's slightly larger than a 25 cent so that rules that out...

First two pieces with a quarter for scale:

Today's piece:

That was a monster ball for sure. I hope you can find the rest of the pieces but it's going to take alot of crazy glew.
There is one different bullet in that mix,and a cool buckel piece too, interesting.
Looks like it might be a good day for hunting but the tide isn't until 5 pm. I wish I could get out but I have my grandson and daughter coming in the afternoon.

Romeo congrats on your Loonie. :-) AMAZING FIND! Ha ha... On a more serious note I had no idea those pieces of shell would be so large. That must have been a monstrous weapon. Hope it warms up for us all soon buddy so we can go to our great sites that are waiting for us. Glad you got out and found some cool stuff. Wish I could just get out but it's so damn cold right now

You'll soon have it all (the mortar)

That is a strange colored loonie, looks like you saved it in the nick of time too.
I'm real interested to hear the spending of it goes. Sure it's legal tender, but hardly recognizable.

Very nice...hope you find the rest of it...that would be an extremely cool puzzle !!!

Couldn,t get out today as had some committments with the wifey for the afternoon.

Musta been cold..the wind up in Kentville was very bitter.

I like the black bullet...1st i,ve seen like that....and I got pretty good variety of them this winter so far.
