Another olive jar and a jug

More great info there Whydadiver, I am going to check with the guy who recovered this and get his take on the rim. I don't know if it is significant but on the inside of the rim there is what appears to be a ridge. I will let you know when I get in touch with him.
I am in the Air Force Reserve now and trying to get out diving or metal detecting as much as I can. My daughter just joined the military and my wife and I are looking after our grandson while she is in boot camp so my time is very limited these days.
You must be diving out of Boston are you

ZDD: I dive out of Newport, R.I. I was Pirate Diver until the new website didn't like that name so now I use WHYDAH which is one of the best projects I ever served as archaeologist on. Us cold water divers need to stick together, there aren't many of us out there.Where do you live in Canada and have you been diving in Cape Breton?

I live up in the Annapolis Valley now but for years I was in Dartmouth. It is a 60 mile drive to Halifax but I still get out diving, often just not often enough.
We have a couple of projects on the go right now and one is in CB. I hope we will do well there this year.
Did you dive on any of the treasure wrecks in CB
How about the Whydah, they still getting goodies off of her ( excuse the lack of question marks, ever since they changed the format on the is site I haven`t been able to use it. It works on MS word but not here)

ZDD: I was the archaeologist for Bob Mackinnon on Le Chameau for a few years, great diving. She hit a rock and was smashed to pieces in August of 1725. The constant surge pushed coins into cracks and crevices of the rocky shore where we found them almost 300 years later. The Whydah continues to amaze me by the incredible depth below the sand bottom we are finding stuff including cannons, approaching the technical limits of our powerful deflectors. You should contact Mackinnon, PM me and I''l give you his email.

I found an olive jar identical to yours about 8 years ago diving the Tamar estuary in the south-west of the UK. Ships have moored in that part of the river for centuries so it is a great dive for finding artifacts. It was lying in mud at about 15 mtrs with only the rim showing. Took about 20 mins to dig it out and was pleasantly surprised to find it intact. I have been searching the web over the years trying to find another like it and finally came across your post a couple of days ago. A big thanks to you and all who contributed to this thread as I now know a lot more about my find.

Wow RD, that is a nice one. Congrats on such a fantastic find.
I am thinking about doing a three week trip to the UK, one week metaldetecting , one week mudlarking on the Thames and one week diving. If I can swing the trip I want to dive with you mate. Tourist diving doesn't intrest me a bit. Laying in the mud and searching for bottles and a like is what stokes my fires.
Where you at in the UK?
