So I joined this site about a month or so ago and have been lurking about quietly. My son bought me a Bounty Hunter IV for Christmas, I've always thought metal detecting would make a great hobby but never got around to getting started. I live in Southeastern Connecticut and the weather hasn't been very good since I received the Bounty Hunter, so I've been spending my time getting my gear together and reading up on metal detecting. I've really been chomping at the bit to get out and start hunting so even though it was a gloomy and misty day I loaded up and went to Eastern Point Beach. Now I didn't go out there expecting to find Captain Kidd's treasure or nothin', just wanted to try it out and get familiar with it. My first find was a Matchbox car, a 2008 Lexus GS490 ~chuckle~ also found a heavy disk shaped object. It's about 10" in diameter, was buried under the sand about 6 to 8 inches and encased in asphalt. It has two holes in it and the remains of a rope handle still attached. I have no idea what it could be but solving mysteries can be fun too so I'm gonna work on it. And unfortunately, along with a lot of expected pull tabs, cans and general trash that's about it, no coins, no jewelry. But I enjoyed it immensely anyway, picked out a couple more places and gonna try my luck again tomorrow....wish me luck.
