WhitesPA and I gave it heck today for over 4 hours, walking up and down a mountainside hunting an area that he has done very well at in the past. Apparently WhitesPA and his buddies did a good job pounding this site as signals were few and far between. I did manage two keepers today, the first was a no date buffalo nickel that just kept "losing face" the longer I carried it. By the time I got home the obverse and reverse had both peeled badly. I also found two wheats that are gonna need serious cleaning to get dates from.

Now, for the mystery. I found a "keystone" shaped metal tag that I could not read at all until I gave it an electrolysis bath, then the writing started to show. I e-mailed Jeff of PA and as usual he took all of about 5 minutes to identify the tag for me. It turns out it's a tag from J.P. Dando pool in Llewellyn, PA. Not only did Jeff ID the tag he also sent me a pic of the pool in operation during the 20's and 30's as well..THANKS Jeff!!

Here's the tag:

Used for Fishing now

That's a terrific I.D. Jeff and awesome that it's still there. I love to see comparison photos and these really did the job well. Its really amazing to imagine that there used to be people swimming in that long fogotten swimming hole turned lake and that most may ride by and just see an old fishing hole, but that it use to bring many people hours of summer fun in the sun! :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny:

You're right, learning the history behind the sites we hunt has made this hobby (obsession) even more enjoyable for me. Of course, I am lucky to have Mr. Research (Jeff of PA) as a hunting partner since I began. Having Jeff to learn from has been a huge benefit to me since I started diggin' in the dirt. AGAIN.......Thank you Jeff!!

Current THers may not realize that it was an old swimming spot. Take your underwater gear...may be some old stuff down there.

Those are my favorite types of finds! Nice going on the ID!
