White Boy and I were down at the Lowcountry Pow Wow over the weekend, White Boy is a Knapper and was doing demonstrations, when this elderly man approaches him with this artifact.. He said he found it when he was about 10 yrs. old and has been trying to find out what it is every since. The elderly man is now 87 yrs. old, so he has had this artifact for some 77 yrs. (WOW) I could not give him an answer and neither could White Boy.. We got his name and contact info and I told him I would post it on here to try to get some info for him.. Any help would be appreciated. I ran my Garret Pin pointer over it out of curiosity but it did not set it off.. It's some sort of stone or pottery. there are no dill marks in the holes. It's like it was cast.. Thanks in advance, Flat Button Chuck

From your description, it is not metal. My first impression is a piece of horse tack, but cannot be certain.

Could you guess as to what the composite is? Also, could you provide width / height / thickness of the item, and diameter of the hole?

That metal piece is from a old boiler. The rock looks like slag I have found. Im curious if melt ore was transported in the manner and it fell out during transport.
