A Jersey cent is better in the hand than in the ground! Any idea on the date? I'm a novice but is that a revolutionary period coin? Thanks for posting. :)

Sweet find- Congrats!

Sweet old copper, congrats! :occasion14:

Thats a cool coin hunt well worth it Stay safe out there. Tommy

Can we see the Horsey on the other side? Looks pretty good from that angle.

It is a Maris "v" reverse and most likely the obverse is a Maris 67, but a photo of that side regardless of condition would help 100% confirm. So it is most likely the 1788 Maris 67-v Rarity 1 common variety. Could you plz PM me the State and County for the NJ survey, getting very close to 1200 coins in the survey that I have been conducting since 2004......... Don

Jersey Obverse

Hey Don I'll PM the locations with pics of most of the other Jerseys that I've found . I have a nice one going to NGC tomorrow. Here's the obverse of the one I found yesterday. Not much left of it...

Thanks for the photo of the Obverse (horse/plow side). I still think it is a Maris 67 Obverse but want one of my buddies to either agree or disagree, since it could be a Maris 66 Obverse, I lean strongly to 1788 Maris 67-v, common variety, the Maris 66-v would be very scarce. Will let you know when I get my yay or nay from my buddy. Look forward to the PM and data.

Hey Don, This Jersey came from Ocean County NJjersey sandbox 4.jpgjersey.jpg

Thanks, the coin is confirmed as a 1788 Maris 67-v variety. The other possibility was 66-v, but the shape of the horse head and open mouth sealed the attribution in my mind. Thanks will be entered into the survey. Don 1788 Maris 67-v is a very common variety..

Thank you for the ID. I just sent 8 more to your PM and have about 10 more that are soaking. I sent them over as soon as the are dry.
