Another high tone rock

Well, chunk of old cement actually.

I was swinging in the old park woods near a cellar hole and got a perfect 25/26 (wheat penny) signal on the Nox, dug the hole and found that the high tone was small and tight and in this piece of cement. Brought it home and cracked it open with a sledgehammer.
1945 Wheat.

OK, this was strange but earlier this year the exact same this happened at another cellar hole about 30 miles away. In this post...

Here are the rest of the finds.

The whistle is a WW2 solid brass stamped whistle and the thimble is my first aluminum one.

I remember a post from a while back that talked about how house builders from the early 20th century would put a coin in a doorway frame or the like for good luck. Could be related or just an accident.

You might be on to something. Both sites had history from mid 1800’s thru mid 1900’s. Or simply a luck/superstition thing.

Yep, the best way to lower the tone on a rock is to bust it up.

British builders were still doing that in the 1940's. Coins used in construction of houses in various places has happened for hundreds of years. There is the famous case of the extremely Rare 1933 Penny being worth so much it was pulled out of the foundation stone of a Church built in 1933.

While hunting an old house in Philadelphia, i got a high tone in some rubble from a stone wall. I moved all of the stones, and no signal. I went over the rocks again, and sure enough it was there. A close examination revealed a wheatie in the mortar, still stuck to one of the rocks.
