This one is telling me it is old ??? It looks like the puritan mother of my beautiful batwing buckle.

But I am prepared for disappointment so tell it to me straight all you buckle experts :D

It is about 2 1/4" x 1 3/4"

Thanks!

Thanks Va ;D Which indian war period do you mean? I was all pleased thinking you meant 1760s but then it occurred to me you might mean the 1870s or maybe some other time.

Post CW Indian Wars period. The giveaway is the crosspiece protruding from the back rather than one piece cast.

That's exactly what I was thinking :notworthy:

Is that cross-piece welded on? That would certainly help to date it.

Here is a closer pic of the attachment -

I'm going to green check this thread but maybe someone can help me with this. I was searching the board here looking at other buckles crosspieces and trying to get more familiar with them. This buckle stood out to me because it does look something like mine - but it is estimated to be much older. ???

Thanks SS ;D The pics do look iron like but it is not iron. Doesn't attract a magnet. I'm going to check this because it is after all just a broken buckle :laughing7: But something is bugging me about it. I'll look into it on my own.

Well it is a Harness Buckle as you say, being of Copper-Alloy, would still make it 1900s :icon_thumleft:
