I have found so many pieces of 1800's hand-forged hardware back near my house that I don't post about it anymore, although it still gets me excited. This find from the other night, though, has me puzzled. I assumed it was just a normal nail until I put it in an electrolysis bath for a few hours and realized that it had a sharp point on both ends. Which would, of course, negate it being a nail. At first I thought maybe the "hammer" end broke off and maybe just coincidentally wound up sharp, but on closer inspection it doesn't look that way.
Any obvious ideas on this? Is there some kind of hardware/tool that's obvious that I'm not thinking of?
