This morning I met up with DPBob, Kimsdad and Watercolor for some woods hunting action. We started off in an old picnic grove that I have hunted like a dozen times and never found anything but clad and 2 or 3 Wheaties and tons and tons of trash. After about 30 min I punched into the woods and just started to detect wherever I could as the undergrowth was out of control. That lasted about another half hour then I decided to go deeper into the woods where on earlier hunts I found some old Boy Scout camp sites. I wandered around for about an hour digging old pistol and rifle slugs and shotgun shells when I happened upon a huge tree where I got a great silver signal. It wasn't very deep so I made short work of it and before I knew it I saw a 1920d Mercury dime peeking up at me. That was a relief, as I haven't ever found any silver in these particular woods. 2min later and like 6 feet away I got a nickel signal at about 4 or 5 inches, it was a 1917 Buffalo. Then like 1 min later I found a 1925 Wheatie. That's all I found out there and everyone else had bumped to another set of woods just across the street.
Well same thing, I detected for about 2 hours just finding memorials when I got my 4th oldie for the day. Down like 4 or 5 inches was an 1896 Indian Head penny so I was really happy. It was funny, Watercolor was walking/detecting his way over to see my IH when he got a deep dime signal, it turned out to be a 1920's Merc like 10 feet away from me. I ended the day just digging deep pistol slugs and other garbage trying to find deep iffy signals. It was a great hunt and everybody found great finds.
