Wow! I have a hunch that ring has some age to it...the best antique ring my diggin buddy Kindafoundabuckle got was also a signet ring with female figures on the sides... I wonder if this one's plated...because of the different color on the metal where the wear is on the sides. Was any of it discolored when you found it? I would think it would have a karat marking...and the words "trade mark" bother me a bit if it is indeed old. Of course, it could be a modern reproduction of an old style. The engraving on the top is certainly wierd. Interesting piece! It'll be exciting to hear what others think...

I believe that this may be the mark of William C. Greene & Co. of Providence, RI, a firm which adopted that name in 1873 and was incorporated in 1904. It was succeeded by the firm of Budlong, Docherty & Armstrong in 1915. That date range would seem to be consistent with the style of the ring.

Looks plated to me

The wear on the sides leads me to believe that it's heavily plated. But it's still a really cool find and I'd definitely call it a keeper!

Not to disgree but i must.
where on gods green earth do think its that trade mark.
when you looked at the engraving were you on mushrooms...lol
Looks to me like there is a stone missing those marks on it are how they would ruff up a surface to make sure the stone bonded to the ring. id go back where the ring was found and look for the stone.

As a matter of fact, Greene did use the words "Trade Mark" on either side of some of their marks.

Read Tim's description of the maker's mark again:

It looks like a G in a circle in the middle of Trade Mark

(By the way, the size of the "G" within the circle varies.)

Thanks PBK, for clearing that up
I think I agree about the ruffing it up on the top part for a stone
