Another Fast Escape?

You know that if you are to be a detectorist.....You gotta have imagination!

Well I seem to have a really good imagination so I fit right in! After all the whatsit's finds from yesterday one really had me intrigued. It's the chain looking find at the top of the picture from yesterday's post. I spent so much time thinking about it that I went to the basement last night and brought it up to the kitchen sink and let it soak all night. Got up this morning and began cleaning it. Started off with a tooth brush....waste of time. Went to the sturdy wire brush and a little better but not much. Then I thought about how some of you clean your relics with the Dremmil tool. So....I thought.....hubby's got one of those in the basement! After spending the next couple of hours and 'using up' a few of those gadgets (sorry honey) ...I finally decided that I had myself a broken set of handcuffs! Wow! My first to find! And then I got to thinking.....wonder how these got there? Was it from an outlaw running from the sheriff.....chain gang escapee....or has my imagination just up and run away with me!

Handcuffs? What do ya think?

I called the owners of the land last night and told them of my find. They said that WAY back in the day there were slaves in the area and that the person that owned the slaves set them free and gave them a piece land a couple of miles away....But.....there also was an old dirt road that ran along side the field where I found them...so the chain gang scenario could still be possible too...who knows?

to clean iron i go to the nearest ace hardware store get a bottle of ospho just soak it overnite then use a brass wire brush nana it works well for me ......... just a thot lol...........jerry

nana, the shackles/irons you have were made for the purpose of keeping early american wives out of the basement and away from the dremel....i thought everyone here would have picked right up on it !!!!!!!.............justjoking.......nice finds...........gldhntr
